Paramedical Courses – Healthy Career

Posted by

A paramedic is a medical professional, usually a member of the emergency medical services, who primarily provides pre-hospital advanced medical and trauma care. A paramedic is charged with providing emergency on-scene treatment, crisis intervention, life-saving stabilization and transport of ill or injured patients to definitive emergency medical and surgical treatment facilities, such as hospitals and trauma centers.

Apart from doctors, paramedical professionals play an integral role in an efficient functioning of the healthcare mechanism. The students of science with biology at 10+2 level can make a rewarding career in various disciplines of paramedical sciences such as pharmacy, medical laboratory technology (MLT), radiography, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and medical transcription (MT), among others.

Medical Laboratory Technology
The development of sophisticated diagnostic equipment has proven to be of great help to the doctors for treating patients. Accordingly, the need for skilled technicians has increased. A medical lab technologist performs certain chemical, microscopic and bacteriological test essential for detection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The undergraduate courses in MLT are available at degree and diploma level.

There are two types of radiographers - diagnostic radiographers and therapeutic radiographers. The function of a diagnostic radiographer is to take X-rays of a particular part of a patient’s body, whereas, the therapeutic radiographer treats the patient by using X-ray and radioactive isotopes. They both work under a qualified radiologist. Various institutes offer courses in radiography at degree, diploma and certificate level.
