Working Internships in Science and Engineering (WISE) Internships is a unique scholarship programme offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for Bachelor's degree students in their third and fourth year from select Indian universities.

With this WISE scholarship, students can spend two to three months working with German doctoral students, scientists or professors or research projects at institutions of higher education and research institutes in Germany.
The recipients of this year's scholarship gathered recently at the DAAD office in Chennai for a pre-departure meeting. Axel Saurer, Deputy Consul-General, German Consulate, Chennai, said the scholarships helped strengthen German-Indian relations. “Full-time Indian undergraduate students in their fifth, sixth and seventh semesters registered at one of the select Indian universities are eligible to apply for this programme,” said Stephan Balzter, DAAD representative in Chennai.

In India, 62 select institutions are eligible to participate in this programme.

Padmavathy Chandramouli of DAAD Chennai said the students selected for the scholarship would receive a monthly stipend of Euro 650 (given on a daily basis) to cover living expenses, Euro 525 for travel and also health insurance covered by the DAAD. An aggregate mark of 75 per cent and above, detailed motivation letter and acceptance letter from a German professor for internship are the prerequisites to apply for the scholarship. German language skills are not mandatory. Students selected for the WISE will receive a monthly stipend.
