As health awareness increases, the vital role played by physiotherapy in general fitness is widely accepted. Consequently, the number of young people preferring to join these courses is also on the increase.

P. Varadaraj, principal of the Montessori Institute of Medical Sciences and College of Physiotherapy, Vijayawada, says that the importance of physiotherapy is greatly noticed in the developed countries. Of late, in countries like India, this medicine is making rapid progress.

A physiotherapy awareness and treatment camp was held at the Montessori auditorium recently when the physiotherapy students were exposed to various complaints usually reported by patients. Over 100 patients including housewives turned up at the camp. People aged around 55 years also visited the camp and they mostly had body pains.

Dr. Varadaraj says that the faculty and final year physiotherapy students were involved in the camp and a continuous OP clinic is always open at their college to treat patients between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Continuous practice and exposure will give students the required skill, he adds.
